In Battambang there is a large group of pushy Motodops known locally as the MotoMafia. These guys work for the Royal Hotel Group ( The Royal Hotel, Star Hotel and Asia Hotel) and The Chiya Hotel. Basically, the MotoMafia will only ever want to take you to the above listed hotels as these hotels pay the largest commissions. With their numbers they intimidate other, independent motodops leaving little alternaltive to the MotoMafia. They have been running their racket for years and have a list of so-called reasons for not taking you where YOU want to go.
Other common scams they carry out is to overcharge you at any business you stop at with them (by speaking in Khmer to the business owner to charge more) which they will return later to pick up the difference.
For a better experience of Battambang the local MotoMafia is best avoided.
